Description:
This South Africa project is ideal for anyone looking to teach or work in childcare. The Emjindini township of Barberton has several crèches and daycare centers which are highly understaffed and under-funded. Working with Global Vision International on this project you can provide an invaluable service, caring for and educating a large number of disadvantaged children in the area (many are from families destroyed as a result of AIDS). There are also a number of poorly-resourced primary schools in the township, which provide formal education for many disadvantaged children, offering them an alternative to a life of poverty. Due to the high number of students in each class, volunteers perform a valuable role by reducing the pressure on the few available teachers. How this program makes a difference: South Africa faces some of the greatest social challenges known to man, with sprawling townships poverty stricken and ravaged by the effects of AIDS. GVI's teaching and child care projects hope to alleviate some of these problems and contribute to rebuilding the health of this great nation.
