Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All year round.

Description: Make a real difference to the lives of some of Ecuador's poorest communities. Experience the Andean Indigenous culture in and around the beautiful market town of Otavalo, two hours from the capital, nestled over 2500m in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. Take Spanish lessons and stay with a local family to immerse yourself in the local culture and way of life. Volunteer work is available at indigenous communities in nearby rural mountain areas. GVI, along with leaders of the indigenous communities, are developing educational programmes to assist children and adults who otherwise would not have the opportunity of any formal education or who need educational reinforcement. 40 hours of intensive Spanish classes are included in the programme, as well as numerous excursions and activities such as hikes, bike rides, waterfall and river trips.
