AFS Intercultural Programs: Tunisia Gap-Year and Beyond
Tunisia
- Other Cities in Tunisia:
Tunis
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Summer Archaeology Program: Jun/Jul. 2010- Jul. 2010
Description:
Extending from the luxuriant Mediterranean seacoast to the arid Sahara, Tunisia is a North African Muslim nation that has strong ties to the Middle East. While family life can be quite traditional, and social rituals are deeply rooted in Arabic culture, Tunisia is one of the most westernized Arab countries. Greek, Phoenician, Egyptian, Roman, Arab, Ottoman, and European cultures all contribute to the multi-ethnic population, rich cuisine, and variety of traditions.
Highlights:
Summer Archaeology - NEW! Join the AFS Tunisia Archaeology Camp and get your hands dirty. The site is located near the tip of the Cap Bon Peninsula in NE Tunisia, approximately 100 km east of Tunis, the capital city. The precise part of the site in which the group will be working and the type of work will be assigned by the on-site project manager, a scholar from the National Institute of Heritage under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. The project will include both excavation and restoration work. Participants will live in dorm-like setting on the work-site.
