Description:
HODR is on the ground operating a four-month long project in Padang Pariaman, Sumatra, Indonesia in response to the devastating September earthquakes. The recent earthquakes damaged over 200,000 homes and survivors now struggle to remove rubble and erect shelter as the rainy season quickly approaches. Through February, HODR volunteers will be assisting residents with debris removal, demolition of damaged homes, erecting shelters and general recovery efforts, providing the "human power" needed to get devastated families bridge the gap between rescue and recovery. We provide on-site training, work six days a week, live in local the community, make a huge impact and have a great time with fellow volunteers from all over the world!

Qualifications:
HODR strives to make it easy and productive for interested individuals and groups to assist disaster-affected communities. No previous experience is required. You let us know when you would like to come, pay your way to our site, are willing to work 6 days per week to help the community recover, and pay nothing to the organization. HODR provides free and effective services to communities by supporting volunteers with housing, meals, tools, and organized work at no charge. Come for one day or the entire duration of the project - there is no minimum or maximum time requirement.

Typical Volunteer: HODR draws volunteers from all over the world and all walks of life - over the past we have engaged volunteers from 34 countries! Some volunteers are in school, others are professionals using vacation time to volunteer, some are retired, and others are on long travel excursions, with HODR being one stop along the way. Volunteers range in age from 18 into their seventies, with a majority falling in the 20-30s range. We draw a diverse and welcoming volunteer community.
