Five years ago, the tsunami devastated the coasts of Thailand Khao Lak was hardest hit. OpenmindProjects and our volunteers helped apart from the previous projects, tsunami orphan home and schools we support, We now support the Khao Lak National Park and volunteers are welcome. Volunteers are welcome to stay in staff bungalows overlooking the sea and eat with the staff or they can stay at a hotel/resort in nearby Khao Lak. The local ecotourism attractions include several waterfalls, and a so called water wall, the beach and the coral reefs. Wildlife and mountain trekking and some of best scuba diving in Thailand with nearby Similan Islands If you're looking for a coastal project then Khao Lak may be your choice. Go to the beach or go trekking in the mountains. Choose from an array of leisure activities available including yachting, squid fishing with local fishermen, snorkeling and scuba diving in nearby Khao Lak. Your time in Thailand will be both relaxing and worthwhile.
Highlights:
Volunteers teach tourist English and also help the staff when foreign tourists visit. Interested volunteers may help develop new information and promotion in English. Specialists may help with wildlife surveys and design tour packages. Volunteers may join rangers on trekking when convenient. Wildlife includes monkeys, such as macaques and spectacled langurs, wild boars, serow and muntjak deer, hornbill birds, monitor lizards and pythons, cobras, maybe Asiatic black bears and used to include tigers, tapirs but probably not any more. Staff work at the head office, a nearby service center, by the sea, and 3 ranger stations inside the NP. Tropical rain forest covers almost all of the park.
