Volunteering at Women Center

Description: Ideal Home is a women's center where women suffering from domestic violence and abuse can stay. The center opened April 2009 and received 10 women and their children at that time. The women are supposed to stay for 18 month at Ideal Home.

During their stay, the women work on different skills, focusing on sewing (clothes) and making candles. Hopefully they will be able to start their own small business in the future.

Volunteering at Women Center

Highlights: At Ideal Home they get a new family to interact with, new friends and they automatically practice to speak up for themselves and trust other people.

Volunteers can help out teaching English conversation and other skills as well as just interact with the women.

Ideal Home is also in great need of donations and sponsors.

  • Typical Volunteer: Volunteer Nepal National Group (Volnepal, VNNG) is a local, independent, non-profit organization. VNNG was founded in 2000 and registered with the the Chief District Administration Office and the Social Welfare Council, Kathmandu in 2004. VNNG was created to implement new initiatives and platforms that could better answer the need for communication between volunteers and community groups with NGOs operating both locally and internationally, VNNG partners with organizations to support community leaders and youth workers in Community Building, Rural Development, Education and Sustainability efforts. Our model, which forms the basis for much of our work, is an adaptable approach to community building in which youths and adults work as partners to examine community resources, develop a community vision, and take action to create meaningful change.

    Volunteer in Nepal's Mission Statement: The mission of Volunteer Nepal National Group is to mobilize and sensitize women and youth on the issues affecting them and how to utilize the resources available in order to promote and support sustainable self-help projects focusing on advancement of women and youth initiatives, income generating activities, human development and environmental conservation efforts. Our objective is to co-ordinate socio-cultural interaction between people of diverse background by creating opportunities for both local and international volunteers to exchange their experience and skills. We provide volunteer service opportunities for people who are genuinely interested in learning about a new and different community and culture while contributing their time and skills to benefit worthwhile community service throughout Nepal. By partaking in the program, it is hoped that participants will experience personal growth as well as open communication channels between different countries and cultures.
