Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: all year round
Description:
The language and work programme in Togo combines French lessons with unpaid volunteer work. Volunteering is a unique way to discover the country, its culture and people, while doing a meaningful job. * Agriculture/Ecology * Arts and Crafts * Health and Social Projects * Teaching
Highlights:
Volunteers with little or no knowledge of the language receive 10 hrs/week French lessons for the first 2 weeks. During your first 2 weeks of volunteering, you will continue with French lessons in the afternoon. Besides French most people in the Kpalime area speak Ewe. All volunteers will therefore take 2 weeks of Ewe lessons. If you are proficient in French, you will begin your volunteer work immediately after arrival and take lessons in Ewe after your workday. If you are fluent, you might be asked to help teach the other volunteers. You will get lessons in Ewe only.
Qualifications:
You must be at least 18 years old, independent and outgoing, and have a genuine desire to volunteer. The official language in Togo is French. Therefore, it is essential that volunteers speak at least some basic French.
