Description:
This volunteer program will take you to Finca Luna Nueva, an organic, bio-dynamic farm close to two of Costa Rica's highlights, La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano. You will learn about and be an active participant in their organic and sustainable farm practices. As a resource center for all of Central America, you will be helping the farm further establish itself in this role. Volunteers will be immersed with the local customs, culture and the environment as they work alongside local community members on the farm, experience cuisine typical of the area, interact with the local flora and fauna and perhaps even learn a little Spanish along the way. Volunteers will work in the fields helping to harvest the organic herbs and produce, help take care of the animals which are an essential part to the health of a sustainable farm, and be immersed in the rhythms and preparations of biodynamic farming. How this program makes a difference: Volunteers will be working alongside project staff, sustainability specialists, and farm workers to develop and maintain sustainable farming initiatives. As Luna Nueva continues to grow both in area and as a regional resource center, it will benefit the area tremendously. The farm will be able to supply more jobs and financial stability to the local community directly as well as indirectly through the increased tourism. Additionally, their work on rainforest preservation will bring invaluable environmental benefits to the region and the planet.
