Volunteer Teachers Needed in the Foothills of the Himalayas, Pakistan, Females Only
Pakistan
Duration of Program: 1-2 years
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 years
Dates: February 2010 - February 2011
Description:
The Kaghan Memorial Trust (KMT) is a non-profit Charitable Trust registered in Islamabad in the aftermath of the earthquake that devastated Northern Pakistan in October 2005. The Kaghan Memorial School (KMS) offers free education of a high standard to destitute children in the Kaghan Valley, nestled in the Himalayas. This valley was one of the areas hit hardest by the earthquake, which dramatically exacerbated the prevailing extreme poverty in which its residents had been living for generations. The Kaghan Memorial Trust is dedicated to giving the children of the Kaghan Valley a meaningful education that will help them build better futures for themselves, their families, and their communities. The Kaghan Memorial School (KMS) currently maintains places for 136 children, divided into four classes; two sections each of Kindergarten and Grade 1, with an approximately equal ratio of boys and girls in its classrooms. In March 2010 the school will expand by two Kindergarten classes (30 to 34 children per class) as the existing students move up one grade. This expansion will continue each year until the first batch of students completes their A Levels whereupon the full enrollment will total over 900 students. KMT currently has four international volunteer teachers working at KMS hailing from Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the US. We are now looking to recruit four new teachers to join the teaching team in January 2010 with a commitment to teach until the end of January 2011. As a teacher, your responsibilities will include: * Planning, preparing and delivering lessons; * Assessing, recording and reporting on the development and progress of the students; * Maintaining records of class activities for the reference of future teachers; * Working in consultation with the rest of the teaching team and the KMT Managing Trustee to develop, update and improve the curriculum and teaching model for your School; * Managing and maintaining supplies required for your classroom; * Preparing articles and reports about the School/students to be sent to donors and child sponsors; * Arranging extra-curricular events for the school and students; * Any other Trust or School-related assignments that may be handed to you. All applications should be accompanied by a covering letter, a detailed resume, a photo and a copy of your passport. Short listed candidates will be contacted for further information including references. An interview may also be scheduled at a later stage.
