Proyecto Montezuma: Volunteer and Sustainable Tourism Program
Costa Rica
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Year-round
Description:
Proyecto Montezuma seeks volunteers who are ready to work and play hard! Our volunteers teach, share their talents, explore the area in sustainable ways and impact the community in positive ways. We always need volunteers to help teach English classes and to assist us with our current environmental project. Plus, our volunteers can initiate unique extra-curricular courses. For example, previous volunteers have taught Art, Music, Yoga, Gardening and many more excellent courses. We encourage and support you as you share your talents and foster cultural exchange with locals. In addition to working hard, our volunteers play hard too. We explore the area hiking, biking, snorkeling and kayaking with knowledgeable and experienced locals.
Highlights:
- Snorkel at Isla Tortuga - Mountain Bike to Secret Waterfalls - Teach English to Eager Students - Surf Costa Rican Waves - Learn Spanish - Immerse Yourself in a New Culture
Qualifications:
Volunteers with Proyecto Montezuma teach English and extra-curricular courses to local public school children and adults. We teach during the week and then play during the weekends by exploring the area with knowledgeable locals in sustainable ways. Volunteers do not need prior teaching experience, just the desire to contribute positively and evoke effective cross-cultural change. Teacher-training and Spanish immersion courses are a part of our volunteer program.

Proyecto Montezuma's Mission Statement: Proyecto Montezuma's mission is to enrich the educational opportunities for local children and adults and to offer eager globetrotters sustainable tourism and volunteer opportunities around the Nicoya Peninsula. According to the latest edition of the Lonely Planet guidebook (pg. 309), Proyecto Montezuma is a wonderfully innovative volunteer program that not only gives to the community, but fosters cultural exchange, pays fair wages to its employees and gifts you something for giving of your time and energy...". Our volunteers help teach English and extra-curricular courses, plus participate in environmental projects. Eager globetrotters can help Proyecto Montezuma achieve its mission by volunteering and/or by booking sustainable and popular tours with us. All tours booked with Proyecto Montezuma fund scholarships for local impoverished kids to attend classes at La Escuelita de Idiomas.
