Volunteer in Bangladesh with the Child Sight Foundation

Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks

Description: Volunteers on short-term projects will work with visually and physically impaired children in Sirajganj, Bangladesh in communities traditionally with limited access to health and social services. Volunteers on short-term programs will make home visits with CSF rehabilitation workers, and will work towards assisting providing home based therapy for specific children shadowing CSF staff. The volunteers as a group will organize community advocacy meetings for children, their carers, teachers and other relevant stakeholders, and district level advocacy meetings.

Volunteers will receive orientation training from CSF staff on home based therapy and rehabilitation, community and district level advocacy, child rights, and the challenges faced by disabled children.

Volunteers on longer-term programs may choose to provide technical skills like fundraising, web design etc in the Dhaka office.

This is a joint Service Civil International (SCI) and Child Sight Foundation (CSF) project.

Highlights: Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in development at a grass roots level and, a unique opportunity for cross-cultural exchange in Bangladesh.

Qualifications: No specific qualifications are necessary. Volunteers particularly interested in advocacy/community based rehabilitation/blindness initiatives are encouraged to apply. Volunteers will need a positive attitude and willingness to work with children with disabilities, and an understanding and respect of cultural diversity. Volunteers should be willing to work in a challenging environment. Motivation letter will required by all prospective volunteers to be reviewed by the Child Sight Foundation and SCI Bangladesh (partner organization).

Cost Include Description:
The cost includes registration, accommodation, meals, orientation/training materials, and travel while in country. Volunteers will be covered by SCI insurance while in country. Volunteers must pay for their travel to Bangladesh.
