Come to Thailand from America to help children with disabilities
Thailand
Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Dates: Various
Description:
CCD has a number of projects at various sites: * Rainbow House day center is CCD's property, where we bring children from the nearby government homes for daily school-like activities. Activities include helping the children in all daily activities - exercising, playing, eating, and bathing. * Day centers in 3 government homes - may also include visiting children on the wards who are unable to attend the day centers. Particular medical or therapy qualifications or skills are preferred, but this may include arts therapy (music, drama, arts & crafts) * Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR) is currently operating in three districts. These opportunities will typically only be open to volunteers with therapy qualifications - physical, occupational, or speech therapists. Some volunteers may also be asked to help us in our partnerships with some local schools by being involved in English lessons. Please note: volunteers from outside America should refer to our other listings. The opportunities in Thailand are the same, but it's easier for all if you contact our regional support offices.
Highlights:
CCD works with the Thai Government home for babies, boys and girls in Nonthaburi, Thailand, which houses over 2,000 disabled children from all over Thailand. CCD currently provides rehabilitation to approximately 500 children from the government homes. CCD is located in Pakkred, Nonthaburi, just north of Bangkok.
Qualifications:
No qualifications necessary, but medical/therapy qualifications or skills will allow broader opportunities.

Typical Volunteer: A typical volunteer is simply a person who wants to enrich the lives of children with disabilities. Many are recent high-school graduates on a "gap-year" trip, but there are also qualified health professionals and retirees.
CCD is a Christian organisation, but does not require volunteers to be Christian. However, at various times throughout the routine of the day there will be christian singing and prayer, and volunteers are expected to be present.
