Description: Opportunities vary depending on needs of the applicant(s) and on needs of Rhythm of Hope (in the case of RO internships) and of the beneficiaries in Brazil.

Our work and the projects, programs and communities we serve in Brazil, and the Dialogo Portuguese language school are in the Afro-Brazilian cultural epicenter which boasts of a rich and very unique environment offering a wealth of opportunities for exposure to the celebrated Afro-Brazilian rhythms, the most robust culture of grassroots development social programs perhaps in the world, and the fashion, food, religious practices, capoeira martial arts, beautiful palm lined beaches, historic architecture and more that are specific to this region and most specifically but not exclusively) to Brazil's first capital, the city of Salvador on the Bay of All Saints.

If you want to make a difference in the world, if you want to study the rich heritage of Afro-Brazilian culture, if you want to study Portuguese in a full-immersion environment with home stay - or even only more casually, if you want to introduce your college or university students to a truly meaningful learning experience that can go beyond the normal summer study in Brazil programs which limit themselves to the already so well introduced locations and Salvador's UN World Heritage site of Pelourinho which have become increasingly commercialized ... then this is the place to come to, and if we can reasonably do so we would like to help because in the process we will be able to generate more awareness and support for the critical meritorious work of people here working to help themselves and others.

Rhythm of Hope's Mission Statement: Rhythm of Hope works in the Afro-Brazilian cultural epicenter with projects, programs and communities serving at risk children, youth, women and others, and to elevate living standards among the desperately poor. We establish, maintain and grow personal relationships to know who is honest , working hard, having an impact and how they work and what they lack or need to do more or do it better - then we try to find ways to help. We also try to help potential volunteers find good opportunities and are willing to help college summer study or service-learning in Brazil programs connect with opportunities. And we now partner with the Dialogo Portuguese language school to provide combined language study and volunteering possibilities. Helping people help themselves and others is our primary mission.

    Year Founded: 2004
