Children Sponsorship Program (TACEP)
Kenya

Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: throughout the year
Description:
TACEP (Touch Africa Children Education Project) was established in September 2008 after Eastwind Community Church members participated in a community project in Kaloleni in June 2008. It is a project initiated and launched by Touch Africa members who were also the founders of Touch Africa International in the year 2005 in collaboration with some youth from Kaloleni which is the pilot area. The main reason for starting this project at Kaloleni was because poverty in Kaloleni had stricken to its worst heights. In this area, education is a privilege especially to the less fortunate, vulnerable and orphaned children. It was on this note that we had to identify this area as our center of focus. We are targeting the children at risk of dropping school. The project started with a number of 21 children, 20 in primary school and 1 youth in college. The number has not risen up to date due to insufficient funds to support more children. Our long term goals in the future is to have more children involved in the program as per the amount and support that it will get from Eastwind Community Church, individuals, government funding and any other well wishers for the support of this project. We have the following programs: * OVC Care and Support Program * Drug and Substance Abuse Program * HIV/Aids Awareness and Reproductive Health Program * Guidance and Counseling Program * Computer Training Program, this is for the sponsored kids who can reach our office on Saturdays and during weekdays on holidays.
