Description:
As a Community Development Volunteer at Centro Frates, you would work on community projects such as making organic fertilizer, developing community-based ecotourism, constructing & managing native fish ponds, conducting environmental education discussions, taking water quality measurements in the Puyo River, teaching English, cooking, art, music, proper health & hygiene, and/or conducting kids' camps in 3 low-income communities. Or if you have another skill that you would like to share with Frates' communities, we would also love your assistance!
Highlights:
Frates will provide volunteers with free room & board in a rustic yet comfortable cabin near the scenic Hola Vida Tropical Rainforest Reserve, located just an hour outside of Puyo, in the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle.
Qualifications:
Community Development volunteers at Centro Frates should speak intermediate - advanced Spanish in order to communicate with the target communities. They should be motivated, dependable, respectful, and open-minded. They should come to Centro Frates with the intention of interacting and teaching the communities healthy and sustainable ways of living, as well as learning from the communities themselves. They should commit at least 2 weeks to working with the communities in order to understand better the communities and their work.
