Work with Children at a Deaf School in Kerala, India
India
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Description:
As a volunteer at the school for the deaf, you will have a great time helping children with arts and crafts, computer education, drawing, sculpture, music and dance. You will work with an amazing team of dedicated nuns, who truly love their work, and be surrounded by children who are thrilled to meet new people, especially foreigners. So don't waste time worrying about what to say, at this school, what you do is all that matters. *What the project does and why it needs you! The school was founded in 1995 to serve hearing impaired children in the community and aims to help students communicate and become integrated, independent members of society. The school is expertly run by dedicated nuns who keep the facilities spotlessly clean and organised. The children are from approximately four to eighteen years of age. Volunteers are needed to help the staff provide the children with additional personal care and attention.
Highlights:
* Being humbled by the positive approach to life of these wonderful children * Eating freshly caught and cooked fish in Fort Cochi park - a real Kerala must * Making friends and learning about one of India's most laid back states
