Care for Rescued Street Children in Goa, India

  India
    Goa

Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: By volunteering at a children's home in Goa, you will spend your days playing with the children, helping with the gardening, teaching some English and singing songs: all activities which can be done in the great outdoors, under the brilliant Goan sunshine. And if you still need more sun time, gorgeous beaches are just a short journey away. You will also be making friends with some truly amazing children and helping incredibly altruistic women who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of those in need.

What the project does and why it needs you!
The Mother Teresa'a Roses home was founded in 1998 by Sister Christobel, a missionary who has dedicated the last 25 years of her life to helping the poor. Sister Christobel created the children's home as a place where street children in Mumbai could go to escape the harsh city life and grow up in a safe community. Many single mothers in Mumbai simply can't afford to provide food and shelter for their children and are forced to raise their children on the streets. By sending their children to the Mother Teresa's Roses home, parents know that their children will be well cared for and safe. Many parents come to visit their children as often as possible, but this means that most of the time the twenty-five children have only the small staff of the Mother Teresa's Roses home to look after them.
