Volunteer Peru: Orphanage for Boys
Peru
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: open
Description:
The project provides community development assistance to the Orphanage for Boys. This home provides shelter and care to children without parents or whose parents have abandoned them. While onsite, volunteers act as role models, help the children with their homework, lead recreational activities, aid in meal preparation, and assist the staff members. The boys range in age from 3 to 15 years old. Most of the boys' families suffer from alcoholism, poverty, violence and abuse. Some kids go to school in the mornings, others in the afternoon. You will work with the staff of the orphanage helping the children academically and emotionally. You can teach English, handicrafts, organize sports activities, and help the boys with their homework.
Highlights:
You will be volunteering in Cusco, which is the Inca City located in the Southern Sierras and positioned in southeastern Peru only 80 km from Machu Picchu. Cusco is known as the Archaeological Capital of Americas and is the most visited city in Peru. uVolunteer anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Peru and all it has to offer. Great weekend trips include: * Visit Machu Picchu * City tours of Cusco and surrounding areas * Artisan fairs * Bars and Discos * Cultural Events
