Volunteer Ghana: Children's Home

Highlights: All of the orphanage locations are rich in culture including the food, architecture, clothes, language, art, dance, and music. The orphanages are located in: Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Koforidua, Sunyani, and Kpando.

Accra: is the capital of Ghana. It has many attractions and is known for its nightlife. Accra is home to the largest orphanage in the country in terms of size and number of intakes.

Tema: is roughly 30km from Accra. It is well developed, and a pretty large city. It's known for its fishing, and is a major industrial city in Ghana. For attractions and nightlife you will need to go to Accra.

Kumasi: is the capital city of the Ashanti region, and the historical centre for Ghana. The people of Kumasi hold on to tradition, but are still up to par with modernization. There are many attractions in Kumasi.

Koforidua: is one of Ghana's oldest cocoa-producing centers and is the capital of Ghana's Eastern Region. Koforidua is considered the commercial center of Ghana. The city is known for its beautiful women, and is referred to as 'Koforidua Flowers'. There are many attractions in and around Koforidua.

Sunyani: is the capital of the both the Sunyani District and Brong-Ahafo Region. Sunyani is one of the larger distribution areas for crops grown throughout Ghana. There are many attractions to visit in the beautiful surrounding area therefore you will have plenty to do and see.

Kpando: is a small town located in the Volta Region in eastern Ghana. The locals are friendly and live their lives in a more relaxed, easy going fashion, making it easy for you to really understand and respect the culture. Kpando is about a three hour bus ride from the capital of Accra.

uVolunteer believes that you should have a well balanced work and play schedule. This means you will only be required to work 5 days per week (Monday to Friday) for a maximum of 6 hours per day. For the remainder of your time, you will be free to enjoy the vacationing aspects of your trip. uVolunteer anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Ghana and all it has to offer. Our local representative will advise you on which areas are safe for travel.

Great weekend trips include:
* Site seeing and community tours
* Travel to Cape Coast and Elimina Castle
* Visit a monkey sanctuary
