Description: This volunteer position cover the areas of print journalism reporting which are mostly community based newspaper, where the volunteer will have the opportunity to work in a busy news room and report local events. The television journalism intern gives you the opportunity to explore your creativity while getting hands-on experience and as well as learning television commercial and local documentary production. The station will also give you a broad experience in their program production. Radio journalism is another aspect that is worthwhile which focuses on community based reporting.

International volunteer work in the field of journalism will be challenging and be an incredibly rewarding international experience. You will get to meet and interview a variety of people from all facets of society.

Qualifications: This volunteer opportunity is open for those in the field of journalism and also students who are in their first, second and third year in the university. International volunteer work in journalism will be quite challenging and demanding but giving you a worthwhile experience.

Minimum Education: Diploma/Certification

Airport Pick Up: Upon arrival, our staff will be at the Airport to pick you up. Please do not forget to send us your flight information and we guarantee, you will never miss us at the airport.

Orientation: Orientation about the local culture, history, safety, religious, and other issues relating to the country.

Accommodation: You will be staying with a host family, within a rented house or a hostel and volunteer will stay either in a single or shared room. All our families are middle-class and live in safe neighborhoods. The distance from the project varies. The family will provide three meals a day.

Compensation: The program fee also covers compensation for local families and hosts who supply accommodation and food for each volunteer. Staying with a host family will allow you to truly be immersed in the local culture.

Food: In most cases your meals are cooked and provided for you by your host family. You will be getting 3 Meals per day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). Traditional but very nutritious. If you're a vegetarian or have any allergies, this is taken into account when we arrange your placement.

This opportunity is open to all those in tertiary education presently undergoing studies in print, TV and radio journalism. Also, professionals in the field are also required.

Typical Volunteer: A typical volunteer with volunteer club of Nigeria will have the opportunity of working with different kind of people whilst getting acquainted in the culture of the people in the environment he or she is volunteering. Working for a newspaper, television and radio in Nigeria will give you experience of a busy newsroom, the skills to cope with deadlines and exacting editors, and the chance to experience life at the heart of Nigeria. You'll also go home with a unique portfolio and a new understanding of the relationships between media, politics and audience. Placements are available with clarity of private dailies including vanguard, punch,. Armed with a press pass, it is up to you and your editor what you investigate  these papers carry both news items and editorial. We advise you to read up on West African life before you arrive so you are fully prepared. This is a great program for volunteers interested in politics and social issues, though you may even find yourself at a football match-reporting on a game.
