Special Needs Children Nepal
Nepal
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Dates: 1st and 15th of each month. year round
Description:
This volunteer with disabled children in Nepal programme involves working with special needs children at a disabled care center. World Health Organisation surveys indicate that 17% of children in Nepal suffer from many kinds of disabilities every year. Education is critical to a child's development and well being. Poverty and lack of transport systems, which still exist in the society, prevent these disabled children from getting access to education. Volunteering with special needs children will allow you to make an important contribution to the education of the disabled children in Nepal and it will also provide you an opportunity to gain more knowledge about life in this beautiful country.
Highlights:
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, volunteers are met at the airport and taken to their accommodations. They will receive an orientation that will familiarize them with the town and the surrounding area, the Nepali culture, and their program. Once the placement begins, participants will receive an additional mini-orientation at the program site that focuses on program opportunities and responsibilities. Volunteers will spend around 4 - 6 hours a day at the child care center. Volunteers will assist in the daily running of the centre and will carry out the following duties: * Assist in preparation on basic health and sanitation * Assist with general academic lessons * General care of the children * Help with planning activities for the children * Helping the children with conversational English and also help with their homework * Based on experience and skills volunteers may provide vocational training and recreational activities (Dance, Song and games). Working at the disabled care center not only allows you to make an important contribution to the education of the children but also provides an opportunity to gain more knowledge about life in Nepal.
