Description:
Teaching English in India gives you the opportunity to help underprivileged children in Kolkata, one of India's largest cities. Teaching English in India volunteer programme places volunteers in schools across the city that provides children who have had no formal schooling and are from very poor backgrounds with basic education. Teaching English in India is indeed a rewarding experience that will surely make a difference.
Highlights:
Teaching English in India provides a 5-week, two month or three-month placement limited to just 15 volunteers placed across schools in the city. When you have arrived into Kolkata you will be picked up from the airport and taken to your accommodation. One of the most unique aspects about the Teach English in India volunteer programme is that it provides you with in-country teacher training before you commence with the placement. This helps you to understand the context of education in India and gain the skills to effectively educate under-privileged children in India. The training takes place in the first week of the trip and involves: * One week of intensive training with a qualified teacher and will include an introduction to the Indian education system. * 20 hours of observation. * You are instructed in how to use teaching tools. * You visit a small nursery school. Once the training has been completed, you will be placed in a school for underprivileged children and your role will involve: * Working with the class teacher * Taking smaller groups independently * Preparing teaching aids * Tutoring children individually who may need additional assistance You may also be able to help the children with basic maths like counting, art and craft sessions or even taking the children out for educational trips. Some projects may even require your assistance in running sessions in conversational English with adults, who might either be beneficiaries of the programme or teachers and staff.
Qualifications:
* You do not need to have any formal training or experience to participate in a program, but whatever experience you do have will be taken into account. * Minimum age 18yrs. * You need to be an English speaker. * International volunteers welcome.
