Teaching English Project in Tanzania
Tanzania
Term: Summer, Throughout the year
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Dates: Inquire for dates
Description:
This is a great opportunity for interns with an educational background to learn the basic fundamentals of teaching a class while simultaneously gaining invaluable experience in their desired professions. As an intern, you can experience the numerous obstacles affecting the education of Tanzanias youth as well as see the effects the current lack of teachers in the country's rural villages has on the education process. In this project, interns will teach English at nurseries, primary, and secondary schools throughout Tanzania - teaching children ranging in ages from 6 to 16 years old. Primarily working under the guidance of the schools' directors, interns teach in rural schools. Interns' Responsibilities: Interns will primarily work as English instructors either in private or public schools as well as schools run by regional orphanages. Interns will teach English for 2-3 hours each day (six days a week) in addition to organizing extracurricular activities, games, art classes/lessons, singing, dance, etc. Interns may also be asked to assist with various administrative duties as well as assist the schools' English-teachers (note: each school has at least one English-teacher). In the internship, you will select a particular area of interest related to teaching English and explore the issue further with the help of an assigned supervisor. Please note: the project supervisor does not develop internships; this is up to the intern to get as much or as little out of their projects.
Highlights:
Tanzania is an attractive East African country where you can spend some time on a volunteer project or international internship. Our volunteer projects in Tanzania are available for anyone interested in volunteering in the developing world - including those on a gap year, career break, or as summer experience while between semesters. Tanzania is an intensely varied and colorful land on the East coast of Africa. Home to Africa's highest mountain (Mount Killimanjaro), largest lake, huge wildlife reserves, and hundreds of paradise beaches. Tanzania is, without a doubt, one of Africa's most appealing destinations and a great introduction to the African continent. Healthcare and education have also improved since independence and volunteers working in schools, care homes, and medical institutions can help this progress to continue. Living in energetic, colorful Tanzania will certainly provide you with plenty of interests and provide enjoyable entertainment when you're not working. The vibrant markets are worth exploring and are a great place to buy traditional batiks, wood carvings, and Maasai jewelry. Tanzania is now firmly established as one of the best safari destinations in the world - with an impressive 25% of the country protected as national parks or conservation areas. Although working as a volunteer abroad in Tanzania will put you in contact with the welcoming Tanzanian people, the wildlife is not to be missed.
