Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Description:
The Healing Hands for Haiti International Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing rehabilitation medicine to Haiti. We are seeking financial support and volunteers to help us accomplish our goal of transferring to Haiti the technical knowledge it needs to improve the health services available to the Haitian people. Volunteer Opportunities: Health Care Team: We are seeking health care professionals who will travel with us to train and treat at our clinic in Port-au-Prince and in local Haitian orphanages. We invite physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/langauge pathologists, orthotists, and prosthetists to consider traveling with us to Haiti. For medical professionals who do not specialize in rehabilitation medicine, but who are interested in volunteering with Healing Hands for Haiti International Foundation, we invite you to come visit our facility for a brief period of time and deliver a lecture and/or prepare a seminar on your medical specialty or an area of particular concern for local Haitian health care professionals. Translators & Support Staff: We are looking for translators and support staff for our medical teams going to Haiti on a regular basis. Volunteers who are translators will be fluent in Haitian Creole and work well with children and adults. The support staff requires no specific skills other than the desire to help wherever they are needed. Our trips last approximately 10 days. All costs are paid for by the volunteers. Fundraising is available since all funds can be donated to our non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. Come join us for the opportunity of a lifetime! Newsletter Team: Healing Hands for Haiti began publishing a newsletter for their volunteers and donors in April 2006. It is a quarterly newsletter highlighting achievements and successes of the organization. It is also used as a tool to request donations and generate income and volunteer action from our subscribers. We are looking for contributors for articles. We also need translators in order to provide articles in both English and French. Internet Scourers: Healing Hands for Haiti is looking for volunteers who can spend a few hours each week to "scour" the Internet for donations and organizations that might be willing to donate to our organization. These scourers will be divided up into several focus groups. For example: * Grant scourers, those who would scour the Internet for Grants. * Donation scourers, those who would scour the internet for donation opportunities, i.e., medical supplies, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, etc. * Listserver scourers, those who would scour the Internet for listservers that might apply to HHH's cause and advertise HHH on them, hopefully generating volunteers and donations to our organization. These scourers would meet on a regular basis to brainstorm ideas and share ideas and results. A virtual team will meet in virtual rooms (chats and message boards) and work together as a team to find opportunities for improving Healing Hands for Haiti's success. Grant Finders/Writers: Healing Hands for Haiti is looking for several volunteer Grant finders and writers who can find and write grants for us on a regular basis. Our website should explain everything you need to know about who we are. We are in desperate need of operation cash flow and need those who have expertise to help us find sources of income. If the grants are substantial, discussion of compensation can take place. Commissions can be worked out on a case by case basis. Fundraisers: In addition to grant writers/finders, we also are looking for all kinds of funding opportunities. If you have any experience in this area or even ideas on how to do this, we'd love to hear your ideas. Also, if you'd like to spend some time helping us to find funds; you'd be perfect for this project.
