Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: August 2009

Description: SKIP is a Charity working with disadvantaged families in the El Porvenir area of Trujillo, Peru.
We need to recruit teachers for the English Teaching Programme which will recommence after holidays around the middle of August. We urgently need more teachers for the start of the term. There will be two hours of teaching per working day, with the remaining time used for planning lessons and developing the curriculum, with assistance from the English Teaching Coordinator. There will also be the opportunity to be involved in other Projects that we are running, we can talk about the areas you would be interested in during the application process.

Highlights: We ask for a contribution of 350 USD per month from volunteers who receive in return free accommodation. Volunteer contributions make up one third of the overall budget for the charity and so we do rely on the to be able to continue working here. Volunteers can consider fundraising the contribution, feel free to contact us for ideas - people can choose to fundraise for a specific project if they wish.

Qualifications: We are looking for enthusiastic people who want to teach the English language to children aged between 6-9 years (Grades 1-3), we also run some classes for teenagers. Previous experience of teaching would obviously be of benefit, although not essential. Similarly previous experience of working with children is an asset. We have an experienced teacher coordinating the programme so there will be advice and support on hand to guide you in teaching and constructing the lesson plans.

A level of Spanish speaking ability would be of use although not essential. However, prospective volunteers would be encouraged to learn as much Spanish as they can prior to arrival as it will enhance their volunteering experience.
