Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Description:
Hands On Manila (HOM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing members with diverse, flexible volunteer opportunities that address the needs of the community. These are the Volunteer Programs offered by HOM: Health and Nutrition Programs: Share your cooking and baking skills with eager girls and young women. Whip up a storm of a dish or baked goodies, then sit down and savor what was prepared. Volunteers are required to bring the necessary ingredients. Reading and Tutoring Programs: Volunteers, we invite you to share your knowledge and skills to teach underprivileged children at the UHF Center. Teach them basic reading, writing or do any learning activity that interests them. Modules available at the Center. Arts and Crafts Programs: Teach pre-school children art and crafts, which they can proudly post on their bulletin board or give to their parents. Reward yourself with the children's creations. Volunteers are advised to bring art materials for 30 children. An art module is available at HOM for reference. Sports and Recreation: If you're into sports and enjoy working with children, this might be the service project for you! Be a sports mentor to former street children who now reside at the Pangarap Shelter. Help them develop and improve their basketball, volleyball or badminton abilities, but also their self-confidence, discipline and interpersonal skills. Highly enjoyable. Computer Literacy: If you can operate basic computer applications, and would like to teach the youth, this could be the service project for you! Volunteer to teach applications such as MS Word, Excel and Power Point to high school-level street children. The time, knowledge, and skills you share with these youth will surely make a difference in their lives and yours. Elderly People: Discover the world of the grannies and learn from their wisdom and experiences. Volunteers will have the opportunity to talk, chat and exchange views with the elderly. Be involved in their prayer activity. Teach them simple physical exercises or ballroom dancing or just hang out with them and keep them company. Differently-Abled People: Here's a great opportunity to experience the language of the heart. Volunteers are welcome to teach arts and crafts to hearing-impaired youth and their parents. Knowledge of sign language is not necessary, as an interpreter will assist. Experience how communication goes beyond talking and sounds. Great opportunity to learn sign language. Enrichment: A holistic enhancement program for girls and young women. Volunteers not only tutor for schoolwork but also motivate the girls to develop a healthy self-image through good grooming, social skills, sports, and the like. Housing: Join Habitat for Humanity-Philippines' flagship project to harness youth involvement in addressing the challenges of sub-standard housing in the country. From painting walls, concrete mixing to roofing, your assistance will help a low-income family fulfill the dream of owning their own home. Previous experience not necessary. Environment & Clean Up Projects: Join the MyZoo volunteer Group in keeping our parks and zoos at their best. Learn about our natural world during the biodiversity tour and lend a hand to address simple but immediate needs at the Wildlife and Rescue Center.
