Community Support in Zambia
Zambia
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: October, January and May
Description:
We have created links with a variety of projects to suit the particular experience and skills of the volunteer. We are working with several community schools that are run independently by the local community. Here you can teach English and contribute in other areas such as sport and art. These schools rely heavily on foreign aid and local initiative so any talents you can bring would be welcomed. We also have placements in Kwathu Children's Home, adult literacy projects, AIDS and HIV education clinics, working alongside a basic healthcare programme and women's groups. All the organisations you will work with are committed to reducing poverty, corruption and disease. You can choose to work at more than one project to make the best of your time and interests. Recent volunteers have been teaching English and sports, helping at a women's literacy group and delivering home based care amongst other things. All volunteers will experience Zambia's wonderful community spirit and will make firm friends with the local volunteers and staff.
