Rural Teaching & Community Project

  Tanzania
  • Other Cities in Tanzania:
  • Zanzibar

Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: All year

Description: Zanzibar Island is part of a beautiful tropical archipelago of islands. With easy access to Tanzania's mainland & safari opportunities, our project base is on the east coast in a long village set on a pristine stretch of coastline. Join our work in various teaching, community & environmental programs in these spectacular surroundings.

Rural Teaching & Community Project

Highlights: In the primary & secondary schools, with too many children to accommodate at one time & shortages of staff and facilities, often two school sessions are run per day. You will find that most of the schools have meagre and ill-equipped facilities, but a wealth of children with a desire to learn. Volunteers will teach English to students at pre-schools, primary, or secondary schools. They can also teach English, life skills, computer skills & more at the local tourism training center to help Zanzibar improve its key industry, tourism.

Optional Add-ons:
Safari Options - Zanzibar & Tanzania offer a variety of tours & safari options perfect for a week-end getaway, or a pre/post-project safari.

Project Excursions - Volunteers can explore: various parts of the archipelago (Spice tours, Historical tours, Jozani Forest etc.); Mikumi, Ruaha, & Serengeti National Parks; the unique Ngorongoro Crater; the mighty Kilimanjaro; & much more!
