Kenya's population is hugely affected by the struggles of HIV/AIDS, poverty & unemployment. It is known to be one of the poorest countries in Africa. There are over a million orphans in Kenya mainly due to AIDS, of which only 5% get any kind of support. There are countless possibilities to impact the lives of those that are affected by HIV/AIDS related problems in the Nairobi slums, surrounding orphanages, schools, & hospitals.
Highlights:
Volunteers will spend two days of the week in the Nairobi slums involved in the community support program. The rest of the time will be split between Kikuyu Hospital & orphanages in Limuru. Optional Pre/Post-Project Tours: 3-Day Tour of Lalibela & Axum, Ethiopia - See the remarkable 11thcentury rock-hewn churches, named as one of the 8th wonders of the world by UNESCO, & the queen of Sheba?s palace in Axum. 2-Day Tour of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Visit the Entoto mountains for views of the town, the National museum, St. George Church & museum & the Merkato - the biggest open-air market in Africa.
