Description:
Explore jungle, beach and mountains on this exotic tropical island. Assist local communities in their day-to-day life, while being enriched by their culture and traditions that are unique to this island. There are options to experience many exciting adventure activities throughout this journey including: diving, mountain climbing, jungle trekking and white water rafting.
Highlights:
Programme Highlights * Involvement with ongoing community projects which include teaching, sports and construction * Participating in environmental project work in the lower Kinabatangan region of Sabah * A visit to the Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary * A chance to scuba dive and mountain/ jungle trek * PADI open water course included on the 8 and 12 week programmes * 2 days in Kuala Lumpur on the 12 week programme * Accommodation in Sabah locations including community camp, jungle camp and home stay This project was formed in partnership with a community charity that aims to enhance the quality of life for indigenous communities. They strive to empower these communities through assistance with infrastructure and education, by constructing and re furbishing classrooms, repairing and maintaining water sources, creating local produce markets and possible micro hydro electric generation projects. The Real Borneo Experience runs 3 programmes for 4, 8 or 12 weeks. The first 4 weeks involves: * 2 days arrival and orientation * 15 days of community project work * 2 days at the beach/snorkelling * 2 days in transfers, to and from Batu Puteh * 4 days in Batu Puteh including a visit to the Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary * 3 days rest and recovery in town or shopping An Example Itinerary of the 4 week Programme Day 1 Arrival in Kota Kinabalu. You will be met at the airport for your transfer to the project Days 2-3 2-day arrival orientation Day 3-17 Community project work Day 18 -19 Beach/ snorkell day Day 20 Transfer to Batu Puteh Day 21-23 Reforestation project work Day 24 Travel to Sandakan to the Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary Day 25 Transfer from Batu Put Day 26-28 Rest and recovery in town/shopping
