Dates: Available throughout the year. Flexible start and finish dates!
Description:
Underprivileged, appreciative and active children are waiting for you to share your time, energy and cricket knowledge with them! This fun project will allow you to make a true diffference in the lives of these children. Teaching them how to play cricket, work as a team, and raise their self-esteem are skills that will stay with them through their lives. Organize cricket tournaments and show-case the talents and determination of these children! They will never forget you and you will never forget them after this project! PROJECT OVERVIEW: Ghana is not the first country to spring to mind to play the sport but after years of England being beaten by Sri Lanka and Australia, England have now found a new competitor - in the hot, dusty African fields of Ghana. We're looking for cricket enthusiasts as volunteers who can continue with the ground work that our volunteers hve already started. We also want to expand the cricket programme to other schools, hopefully culminating in an annual Cricket Tournament. At the moment teaching cricket takes place in three schools and you may work at all three. Part of the uniqueness of Cricket is that the game also embodies a philosophy and discipline based on "fair play" and other life skills - so you'll actually be teaching the children more than 'just cricket'! COMBINE YOUR CRICKET PROJECT WITH TEACHING IN SCHOOLS: At the same time as teaching Cricket, you can also teach other subjects, such as conversational English or even other sports, if you'd like to. You don't need any qualifications to participate in a teaching placement in Ghana (but if you're combining Cricket with teaching English, you do need to be fluent in English). WHAT YOU WILL GAIN FROM DOING THIS PROJECT: --> An exciting, never-to-be-forgotten adventure into Africa. --> New skills, more confidence, a greater understanding of a different culture, invaluable personal and professional development. --> An entry on your CV or résumé that will put you head and shoulders above most others in the job market --> The enormous satisfaction of helping disadvantaged children and knowing that you made a tremendous difference to them. --> And maybe best of all ... an unforgettable experience! OUR USERS SAY: "The level of cricket may not have been high, but it was one of the most enjoyable days I have spent on a cricket pitch. I've watched and played cricket all over the world, at all levels and only on rare occasions have I felt like I did after the tournament was over. The rush of pleasure from seeing how much the children enjoyed it was for me unrivalled."- Tom Thorley, talking about the Travellers Cricket Tournament he had organised between the schools he taught at during his project.

And never is "Welcome" more meaningful than in Ghana. The Ghanaian people are among the friendliest in Africa. There is lots of the good stuff in Ghana - lots of almost overwhelming hospitality and friendliness, lots of religions, lots of languages, lots of music, dancing, action and socialising in Accra, and lots and lots of glorious open African country and sunshine! All this contributes to making this project very enjoyable. ACCOMODATION: Your accommodation may vary, depending on where you are located. You may live in comfortable guest house accommodation, but you will most likely live with a host family in their home. This means that you get to eat, sleep, work, socialise and generally live like a Ghanaian. Local family stays enable you to fully experience the local culture from the inside.
