Description: Seto Gurans, a local NGO, has developed a culturally adapted pre-school program for poor children aged 1 1/2 - 3 years old. It requires the mothers of these young children to take responsibility by forming rotating teaching teams of three or four.

Each of the rotating teams of mothers is provided with a box of prototype exercises. During their rotation in charge of the center, the responsible group of mothers uses its set of materials to challenge and stimulate the children. When their turn is over, another group with another box takes over. There are plans to develop the programme to include the first year of primary school.

A volunteer is needed to join the training team in Kathmandu to teach English to the trainee mothers and to develop English language materials for the exercise boxes. She or he should have TEFL experience and, preferably, primary school experience, and must be willing to travel to regional centres outside the Kathmandu valley. Training is done in three month cycles, so the HELP volunteer is expected to stay for a minimum of three months. This is an exciting assignment for the right person. Seto Gurans will need at least one month's notice prior to the arrival of the volunteer.

Highlights: This is a chance to do a worthwhile job in a well run programme designed to enhance educational opportunities in poor villages. The job will involve at least one trip outside the Kathmandu valley to run a regional training course.

Qualifications: The volunteer will need to have pre-school experience and will need to take a short TEFL course if he or she does not have TEFL experience.
