Description:
As a volunteer at the Australian Wildlife Hospital you will be involved and trained in the following tasks: - Food preparation for Koalas, Rainbow Lorikeets and other animals as requested; - Feeding of Koalas, Rainbow Lorikeets and other animals according to demand; - Collection of appropriate foods sources for the animals, ie. picking of flowers; - Washing the tail end of Koalas with cystitus; - Cleaning Koala and Bird enclosures; - Raking of grounds and sweeping of paths; - Replacing eucalyptus leaf in some Koala enclosures; - General maintenance and gardening duties, ie. digging holes, planting trees, weeding, watering; - Laundry duties; - Cleaning the Volunteer Lunch Room and Food Preparation Room; and - Most importantly - having fun!!
Highlights:
As a volunteer at the Australian Wildlife Hospital you will gain a great undersanding about Koalas. You will be directly involved in the rehabilitation of one of our most precious Australian animals. You may also get the chance to watch some surgery on the animals that come into our care. We regularly show & educate our volunteers about the different types of animals that come through. Some of them can be rare and endangered and it is a great chance to see these animals in the flesh.
Qualifications:
Qualifications necessary to volunteer at the Australian Wildlife Hospital include: - Good command of the English Language - Fit & Healthy enough to do physical tasks which include bending, lifting, scrubbing, sweeping, etc... No back or knee problems.

All accommodation, transport and food costs must be organised by the volunteer. We can provide information about where to stay, etc...

Typical Volunteer: A typical volunteer at the Australian Wildlife Hospital is a fit and able person who is very passionate about our wildlife. They cover a wide range of ages from 16 to 82. There common concern for our wildlife binds them together.
