Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks

Description: Anyone willing to get there hands dirty and have fun rebuilding an amazing city will work just fine. We have developed a very close relationship with the community in which we work, so if you are looking for an experience that no tourist guide can give you, please contact us. We offer language classes in the evenings, free of charge, to the public and any volunteers interested in teaching are welcome to do so. We operate with the mentality of if you have an idea that will benefit the people of Pisco and want to see a project realized, we will support you in anyway we can.

Highlights: When volunteering you develop a close knit family. You meet like minded people, friends that you will keep for a life time. Also, there is no better way to get to know a foreign city than by working within that community, for them and with them. We have local residents over to the house just about every night and volunteers get the opportunity to get to know the city of Pisco on a very personal level.

Qualifications: There are no qualifications necessary except a positive attitude. We are in the very beginning phases of becoming a Non-Profit focusing on long-term, community based, disaster relief work. No skills are required, we can show you everything you need to know. Spanish is a bonus, but not necessary. Heavy lifting and manual labor is a part of most of our activities, so being in descent physical condition helps.

M.A.D. (Make A Difference) Volunteers's Mission Statement: We are a small group of individuals that are dedicated to the continuation of the disaster relief response in Pisco, Peru. On August 15th 2007 an 7.9 earthquake left a devastating impact on the residents in the affected areas, leaving tens of thousands without homes, proper sanitation and jobs. Now, just over a year since the earthquake, the city is working hard to rebuild their homes, communities, and livelihoods. As returning volunteers we have witnessed the slow (yet steady) progression of the city being rebuilt. Our desire is to not only provide our skills and tools to the families seeking need but to encourage families to work together in supportive efforts to help each other rebuild their houses. Leaving behind a more self reliant, sustainable community that in the future will be less dependant on governmental aid.

    Year Founded: 2008
