Description:
Help create the next Tiger Woods. Teach your skills to children and adults learning the sport you love, all while enjoying the beautiful country of Ecuador. The beautiful Andean views of Ecuador make of this destination one of the favorite ones for golfers to share their knowledge of the game with children and spend a fantastic time in this magnificent country. Based on a beautiful country club on the outskirts of Quito in the Valley of Los Chillos, in a stunning 10-hectare area- volunteers will be assisting golf coaches at the 9 hole course. Volunteers will be working with children from ages 6 to 16 years old in the afternoon program from Tuesday to Friday. Participants, along with the coaches will be organizing practice sessions, warm up routines, fitness exercises, practice drills and more. Volunteers will help the children improve: chip, bunk, put, swing techniques, drive, long irons and course management.
Highlights:
Volunteer Role: Volunteers will be assisting the main coaches. Volunteers will be part of all practice sessions, helping with warm up routines, fitness work and drills. You will be assigned specific duties by the coach you will be working alongside such as drills to improve skills and techniques. Volunteers will also help with the organization of local tournaments and competitive matches. You will work with the group as well as on individual basis with the players helping them improve their swing technique, chipping and putting, driving and course management. Volunteers will be working with children in the afternoons; children attend golf classes when they finished school. Each session approximately last 2.5 hours. Volunteers are welcome to help as well in seasonal tournaments. Location: The Club is located in the Los Chillos Valley. This is approximately 30-45 minutes by bus from the north area of Quito. The Los Chillos Valley lies southeast of the center of Quito. Once the citys market garden, it still holds a few undeveloped spots. It is a place with a mild climate. Sangolqui is the largest city in the Valley it has a small but inviting park and church. Sangolqui gets busy during Saturdays due to the market. Also in the Los Chillos Valley you can find thermal pools at El Tingo and La Merced (approximately 40 minutes from Quito). Accommodations and Meals: Volunteers will stay at a host family. Host families are located in good residential neighborhoods in Quito. Home stays have been selected after an application process to make sure they have everything participants need. Breakfast and dinner is served in the host familys home. In your free time you can enjoy the following activities: * Enjoy the Old Town-churches, government, squares and shopping. The historic old town of Colonial Quito is the jewel in Ecuador's crown. The city was designated the first UNESCO World Heritage City in 1978 in recognition of the importance of its colonial architecture (ahead of cities like Bath and Venice). ( Quito is the city that has the best-preserved, least altered historic center in Latin America. The monasteries of San Francisco and Santo Domingo, and the Church and Jesuit College of La Compañía, with their rich interiors, are pure examples of the 'Baroque school of Quito', which is a fusion of Spanish, Italian, Moorish, Flemish and indigenous art. * Visit the "Middle of the World City" where the monument that divides the Northern Hemisphere from the Southern is located. It was built during the XVII century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line. The Ethnographic Museum can also be visited. * You cant miss the Teleferico, this is a cable car that takes passengers up the flanks of Pichincha Volcano to the top of Cruz Loma. The view form here is spectacular.
