South Africa
Durations of Program: 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months, 7-12 months, 1-2 years and over 2 years
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: All year
Description:
We are a small, (2.5ha), fledgling, tourist resort, situated alongside near pristine sub-tropical riverine forest in Morgan Bay a small coastal resort just north of East London and immediately south of the transkei, South Africa. Our main asset is the riverine forest, trees, plants, birdlife and tranquility. Managed by my wife and myself who are both semi-retired but trained nature conservationists we operate a small campsite, craftshop and tearoom. Most of our facilities are built using environmentally sound sustainable materials, resources and methods such as, wattle and daub, cob, natural rock and local thatching grass, with the aim of obtaining a 'natural feel', whilst minimising visual and environmental impact. Our objective is to develop a resort where a broad spectrum of visitors pass through and are 'passively exposed' to the benefits of the environment and our natural heritage. We intend to further develop trails, activities and resources to assist in the process. We also conduct environmental education courses and have been involved with local comminity projects such as , Eco schools run by the Wildlife Society of Southern Africa, and the Friends of Morgan Bay a local environmental 'watchdog' organisation. This project is part of Ecoteer - the solution to travel and volunteering on a shoestring! Ecoteer is a unique volunteer opportunities agency - offering a directory of cheap volunteer work opportunities, volunteer jobs abroad and working holidays. Our volunteer opportunities are cheap because we have eliminated the middleman slashing the price to volunteer abroad for gapyears, careerbreaks and working holidays. Ecoteer is leading the way in a new type of volunteer work opportunities abroad and is changing the volunteer and working holiday industry back to what it used to be benefiting both the volunteer and the volunteer project. We have other opportunities in ecotourism, conservation, humanitarian aid and teaching in other 50 countries. To volunteer with Ecoteer you need to become an Ecoteer volunteer member which costs only £20 per year. Please inquire for more of our cheap volunteering opportunities.
