Description:
We run an eco-lodge in the middle of Zambia, Africa linked with a conservation project. Our lodge has a German biologist as manager and we have a local trained guide and the other staff comes from the surrounding villages. They are not educated with a degree but trained by us. We are the only place offering them an income in the area. We try to buy as much as possible from the villages outside the park and even want to teach them how to produce certain food that we would buy. For conservation work we have an conservation manager. The lodge lies within a National Park, which is situated in the Eastern part of Zambia in the Luangwa Valley. Luambe again lies between the large nature reserves, the North respectively the well known South Luangwa National Park. Luambe National Park is comparatively small (about 35-38.000 hectares), but fascinates through its beautiful landscape. In Luambe, one can find many water holding lagoons, even during the dry season. This has led to a high game and species diversity. The localisation of the Luambe with its direct neighbourhood to the two large National Parks makes it an ideal place to combine the 3 parks of the area in one safari tour. Nestling on the banks of the Luangwa River, the camp is idyllically situated under large spreading Trichelia and African Ebony trees, remote and untouched by outside influences. Visitors are able to experience the thrill of being part of the exciting and ever changing wilderness vista that contains herds of elephant and buffalo, prides of lion and enchanting sightings of leopard amongst the many other species of antelope and plains game that occur in Africa's last frontier. One of the main attractions in the camp and surrounding wilderness is the large number of diverse birds, including African Skimmer, many woodland and riverine species that make this a nature lover's paradise. Once the setting sun sinks over the horizon in a tapestry of colours and sounds that invoke new and exciting senses as nocturnal life awakens in the unfolding darkness. After a full and satisfying day curl up in bed and drift slowly into a dream filled sleep, enveloped in an orchestra of enticing night sounds made by hippo's grunting in the distance and elephants splashing in the rivet, whilst hyena taunt you to stay awake through the night. This project is part of Ecoteer - the solution to travel and volunteering on a shoestring! We have other opportunities in ecotourism, conservation, humanitarian aid and teaching in other 50 countries. Highlights:
We would like the volunteers to help with the general running of the lodge including cleaning, cooking etc. But we also want the volunteers to interact with our local staff so they can passively improve their English and become more confident around Western people.
