Orphanage Volunteering in Brazil - Help our Children Without Any Cost
Brazil
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months, 7-12 months, 1-2 years and over 2 years
Typical Duration of Program: 7-12 months
Dates: All year
Description:
This orphanage is run by a non-profit organization with an aim of providing a full-time home to shelter children on a long-term basis. We are situated in the remnants of the 'Tingua Rainforest.' It is an ideal setting; children are able to get away from the violence and poverty of the favellas (shantytowns) that most of them grew up in. It is 30 minutes away from Xerem, which itself is an hour's bus ride away from the center of Rio de Janeiro. Currently we shelter 20 children (11 boys and 9 girls) between 4 and 13. Back in 2002, two other houses were opened in Xerem; one for teenage girls (8 live there now) and one for teenage boys (16 live there now). These houses have been set up to encourage independent living, but the teenagers are invited back on weekends to spend time with the younger children. Cost: Volunteering here is free and all volunteers are given free food and accommodation. This project is part of Ecoteer - the solution to travel and volunteering on a shoestring. Ecoteer is a unique volunteer opportunities agency - offering a directory of cheap volunteer work opportunities, volunteer jobs abroad and working holidays. Our volunteer opportunities are cheap because we have eliminated the middleman slashing the price to volunteer abroad for gapyears, careerbreaks and working holidays. Ecoteer is leading the way in a new type of volunteer work opportunities abroad and is changing the volunteer and working holiday industry back to what it used to be benefiting both the volunteer and the volunteer project. We have other opportunities in ecotourism, conservation, humanitarian aid and teaching in other 50 countries. To volunteer with Ecoteer you need to become an Ecoteer volunteer member which costs only £20 per year. Visit our website to search more of our cheap volunteering opportunities.
