Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Dates: March, September, November
Description:
Brazil is one of the world's most exotic countries, home to beautiful beaches, the steamy jungles of the Amazon and incredible nightlife. Brazilians are known for their love of life - demonstrated by their passion for football, motor racing and, of course, their world-famous carnival. But there is another side to Brazil. Beyond the glamour of the city centres and beaches are sprawling slums (favelas) where children often have to fend for themselves amid desperate poverty. Our placements are in Rio de Janeiro and in or near Sao Paulo. Both cities offer all the best and worst of Brazilian life. Sao Paulo is very cosmopolitan and within reach of glorious scenery and pristine beaches where many Sao Paulistas go for the weekend. Rio is well known for its unique mountainous coastal location, its stylish inhabitants, its beaches and surf and unique mountain scenery. Included in our full programme is a 3-day trip to the Iguacu Falls one of South America must see sights.
Highlights:
- Being a non judgemental friend and helping rebuild a young person's self esteem and identity. - Discovering astonishing Brazilian scenery with our 3-day expedition to the Iguacu falls on the border with Paraguay and Argentina and your own outings. - Coming home with near-fluent Portuguese and a real experience of Brazilian life. - Understanding more about the problems faced by the poor communities. - Making life long friends, from your group and from Sao Paulo. - The self confidence and perspective you gain from this rewarding experience.
