Work with Local Children or in Animal Conservation in Kenya
Kenya
Durations of Program: 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Group departures are early January, early April, early July, early September for three months. Placement extension may be possible.
Description:
Oyster now has opportunities to help with a range of interesting and worthwhile projects in the Laikipia region of Kenya. It's a beautiful and relatively unvisited part of Kenya, situated right on the equator. Conservation is high on the agenda, making it a great place to enjoy African wildlife and scenery. Our projects are based in or near Nanyuki, which nestles between the Aberdare mountains to the west and Mount Kenya to the east. Those interested in working with children can provide much-needed help at local schools, a home for disabled children or a children's home with Aids orphans and abandoned children in its care. We also have opportunities for those with a strong interest in zoology, helping with research projects at a large nature reserve. These projects will place you at the heart of the community and allow you to experience first hand the things that make Africa special - whether it's the huge herds moving across the plain, the warmth and friendship of local people or that spellbinding moment when the enormous sun sets behind the mountains.
Highlights:
- Contributing to local life in a region that warmly welcomes volunteers. - Living between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Highlands and enjoying being in an area with all the wildlife Africa has to offer. - The three day safari at Samburu seeing game in their natural habitat close up. - The warmth and friendship and of the children and your placement hosts. - Getting to know and understand Kenya with its challenges and potential.
