Description:
Arrive in Northern Peru for a weekend orientation before beginning your service as instructors and assistants in WAVES Educational Surf programs with local youth. Surf world class waves. Spanish and surf classes are available. Based on your skills and experience you will contribute to the Educational Surf program as an instructor or assistant in one of the following program areas: English and Arts, Environmental Conservation, Small Business Development, Swimming and Surfing. You will stay in the home of a local family and share your meals with other volunteers staying there. The minimum commitment is 2 weeks. You can extend your service by increments of 1 week. After 8 weeks qualify for limited internships.
Highlights:
World class waves. Surf and Spanish lessons available while not volunteering. Visits to local caves. Diet composed of fresh fruits and vegetables, local seafood.
Qualifications:
No special requirements are necessary, other than a willingness to work with youth, flexibility, tolerance for the unexpected (power outages, water shortage, etc) and sense of adventure.

Cost Include Description:
Costs for the volunteer positions are broken down into two components: 1) volunteer contribution or donation and 2) program fees. The volunteer contribution is a one-time tax-deductible donation of $400 used to support the operation of the not-for-profit in the local community. Program fees are USD 250/week for each of the first two weeks, then USD 150 subsequently. Program fees include: food, lodging, transportation to Lobitos from Northern Peru regional capital Talara, pre-project preparation, local support, health and safety management, surfboard use. Therefore, the total for a two-week program is USD 900. A month-long volunteer stay would cost USD 1,200. Internships are available to volunteers who complete 8 weeks of volunteer service.
