Description:
Are you interested in becoming a co-worker in Camphill Milton Keynes? Short-term co-workers live and work at Camphill Milton Keynes for a period of at least one year. They are responsible for supporting the adult residents living in the community. In addition they help to manage and organize daily workshops and cultural activities, and have numerous household responsibilities including cooking and cleaning. Working arrangements will be mutually agreed in advance. CMKC is committed to aid volunteers in building their skills and knowledge. It is important that the tasks match the volunteer's goals (as much as possible) and the skills they would like to acquire. Even though unpaid, CMKC makes the programme worthwhile to the volunteer co-workers in other ways by covering their expenses (allowance), providing training, giving references etc. Short term co-workers (1 yr) need to receive basic orientation at the start (induction) as well as ongoing training (introduction course; refresher courses on First Aid, Food Hygiene; Health and Safety etc.) in order to effectively fulfil the tasks they agreed to do. Ideally a mentor needs to be appointed to act as an ongoing guide and support to the volunteer co-worker. Volunteer co-workers will have access to basic equipment in order to do the tasks required (like a desk, chair, comfortable space etc.). We will provide volunteer with a verbal and/or written reference at the completion of their time of stay. The reference will include a brief description of the tasks competed, comments on effectiveness and associated skills and personal qualities exhibited that contributed to a successful outcome, any specific achievements/contributions. Volunteers will be asked to complete an exit interview form, if they wish. From our perspective the primary aim of the exit interview is to receive criticism which is a helpful driver for organizational improvement. Typical Volunteer: Volunteers will be part of a household, will be involved in one or more workshops and be part of the whole community through meetings, training, social and cultural events. Before anyone begins working on their own or with the residents, they would have induction training.
Co-workers living in a household will be asked to give direct support to the people who live there, with their own household tasks such as personal laundry, cleaning and tidying, cooking and shopping. All co-workers' contribution is needed to the running of the house. The house co-ordinators give advice and guidance to the one year volunteer co-workers about how to do this.
Members of CMKC have chosen to live in this intentional community. We share festivals, concerts, outings, parties, sports, events, create plays, music, give talks and do many other things. These activities bring everyone together but they also have to be planned and organised. It is very helpful co-workers join in with these activities.
