Description:
ASVO is a non-profit NGO which places volunteers in Costa Rica's national parks and protected areas. ASVO's objective is to improve the conditions and amount of volunteer work performed at a national and international level. Volunteers are needed to help protect the many different types of habitats found within the park - the park is home to four different types of forest as well as many different species of plants and animals. Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks: 1. Maintenance of trails. 2. Maintenance of facilities. 3. Tending to the public and patrolling with the park rangers. 4. Monitoring the area; protecting the species and trails and controlling the area. 5. Environmental education/ preserving ecotourism. 6. Maintaining buildings as well as the park by painting, cleaning, and occasionally helping with construction. 7. Administrative tasks i.e. organizing the library, archives, or office. There are larger projects the park is currently trying to get started on. These include constructing a water reserve, preserving the falcon population and its habitat, recording species, as well as reforestation.
Qualifications:
Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of high school. Volunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement: Forestry Environmental Science Biology Data Collection Hiking Basecamp International welcomes all the interested volunteers from around the world to volunteer and make a difference.

Cost Include Description:
Your program fee covers all your in country expenses and costs including your accommodation, meals, language training, activities during your orientation week and cultural training. Your international flight, transfer to your placement and weekend trips are not inclusive.

Typical Volunteer: We believe everyone can contribute by volunteering. Recent graduates from high school, college or university, professionals taking a career break, recent retirees, individuals or groups who are interested in a change and the chance to enrich their own life and the lives of others. If you are 18 years or older you can apply for any of the placements available. If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support. Both students and professionals are needed for placements in all our countries.
