Thailand Orphanage Volunteers
Thailand
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Dates: Every Saturday
Description:
If you are patient, caring and compassionate, and have a real desire to give joy, happiness and education to Thai children then you are going to get a lot out of this project. Most large orphanages in Thailand have their own primary (and secondary) school for the pupils, the school is also open for poor families. The orphanage provides housing, food and teaching materials for all poor students. Duties and activities that you will be involved with include: * Teaching English on a non formal basis * Working with the children in their vegetable garden (for their own consumption) * Creating activities for the students including workshops for cultural exchange * Art and Handicraft activities * Sports after classes * Environmental awareness activities (Clean Up the World) * Basic construction to improve living conditions for the locals You will need un-faltering enthusiasm, a creative personality and be prepared to be constantly on the go! The rewards from this volunteer project are endless. You can spread happiness and also receive it from the laughter of the young people you are helping. This project requires its volunteers to be creative, independent and unafraid to use their initiative. We are unable to put a great deal of information into this programme schedule section because there isn't really any to go in what you do is up to you! You are given a lot of freedom and flexibility to do what you see for fit for the benefit of the orphans. Perhaps on your arrival you could talk to the project coordinator to sort out what you are going to do during the week, for example, you could have one day dedicated to sports, one day to arts and crafts and so on. This is a great project to try out your creative muscles, as it will be up to you to keep the children entertained, so the more ways you can think of to do it, the better! Don't be worried though, when you really think about it you'll come up with lots of great ideas you can even bring a few materials from home to help you out along the way. The most important thing to do is enjoy yourself. These children have missed out on any sort of 'normal' childhood and if they see you having fun, they are bound to have fun as well.
