Description:
The Women's Refugee & Child Survival Africa (WRCSA) located in Dodowa, Eastern Region (a short drive from Accra) is seeking 3 to 5 volunteers to assist with the care and education of the 40+ children and women currently under their care. WRCSA has been in existence for more than 10 years and cares for AIDS orphans and widows who have been rejected by their families after the death of their spouse. WRCSA houses, clothes, educates and feeds all individuals under their care and is struggling financially as a result of limited financial support. The children in their care range between the ages of 2 - 17 years of age. Volunteers can expect to contribute to daily operations and may assist with some or all of the following duties: * Bathing and caring of small children * Establishing and maintaining daily hygiene routines with small children * Assisting children with studies * Grant seeking and proposal writing activities as needed * Planning and implementation of lessons and fun activities with children * Overview of record keeping mechanisms and suggestions for improvement as needed * Assistance with homework * Reading and playing with children * Assisting widows with job seeking/income generation activities
Qualifications:
The following skills are required for this placement: * Some experience working with children and young adults * A good understanding of social justice issues * Patience and flexibility * Excellent command of the English language * Creativity, patience and flexibility will be very valuable assets
