Siem Reap

Description: At School:
You will be in-charge of the organization, preparation and teaching of English classes.

House Maintenance:
You will be staying in a traditional Khmer house and you will be in charge of the cleanliness and maintenance of your accommodation. The oldest girl in the house will be there to assist you on these tasks.

Vegetable Garden:
There is a vegetable garden you will take care of: from watering the plants to making sure is it safe from animals. Through this vegetable garden we hope to provide ourselves in the furture with our own vegetables and fruits.

Community Activities:
On Saturdays, we always organize a community activity. This is done through sport, game or arts activity. This is actually a Health Workshop such as brushing your teeth or washing your hair. You will be given freedom on coming up with ideas on how to present Proper Health Care Practices to the children on this activity.

Cultural Exchange:
In the house, there are a lot of children who are curious about you and your culture. They would want to learn from you and play with you as well. Spending time with these children will also help you learn about Cambodian culture.

Homework:
You will be assigned to help 2 children with their homeworks.

And more..... Everyday is different and has new challenges, and you will come to enjoy thew experience of spending time with the children.

You will work from Monday till Saturday afternoon at the village where you also stay in the volunteerhouse. You will prepare the classes and help out during the week. Because of rainy season and most kids need to help out and work, we have new class schedules:

11:00-12:00 age 10-15
13:00-14:00 the small kids (always very bussy class)
18:00-19:00 all other kids, mostly older kids

On Saturday afternoons, you can go to Siem Reap if you want for some relaxing and luxury on the weekends, and come back Monday morning.

Highlights: Live the real Cambodian experience! Life in a Khmer House with our 2 adoption children in a typical Cambodian countryside village! An experience you will never forget!

You will be working for a Dutch organisation that started in 2007 helping rural villages just outside Siem Reap. In Phnum Chhuk about 50 km from Siem Reap we find our school and traditional khmer volunteer house. About 200 children from this village and nearby villages are going to school, they are very enthusastic and coming with all their brothers and sisters.

The original school is very small but we recently added 3 classrooms! We also helps out with community acitivities and working and living here really helps you explore the Cambodia way of living. It's a great experience to be one of them!

You will stay at the volunteer house in the village during the week, in the weekend you will go back to Siem Reap and stay at our volunteer guesthouse to enjoy Siem Reap, and other PURE! volunteer activities!

Qualifications: Conditions to join this program:

* you must be at least 18 years
* you must be willing to work at least 2 weeks
* you must be willing to share a room
* you are motivated to live in a primary village
* you are respectfull for other cultures and religions
* you are willing to wear conservative clothing and outlook. No tight and to short tops or pants.

Typical Volunteer: To be a volunteer you need to be strong and willing to make something happen. PURE! is always looking for young people who want to help and make a BIG difference in third world countries. Are you feeling involved with the suffering of these children?
