Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: All Year Round

Description: Wagusu and Abimbo being a gold mining area the environment has suffered a great loss with lots of uncovered pits filled with water after digging in search of gold. Charcoal burning is one of the major economic activities in the area and people cut trees to burn charcoal as a source of income which has led to deforestation and soil erosion.

Proper perception of our environment is our top priority. Our livelihood is wholly dependent on the environment and for us to get the resources that are needed to sustain life; we should make the environment be healthy and natural. It is from here that we get our food, clean water, herbs, medicines and raw materials. It is this practice that will lead to maintenance of global biodiversity, fruitful productivity and steady resilience of ecological systems.

In this program, we try to bring an end to the habit of misusing this natural capital but instead renew it and even make it better than we found it. Volunteers work on a wide variety of activities, from teaching environmental awareness to planting trees within the community, encourage establishment of tree nurseries, Soil cover e.g. grass and shrubs on fallow parcels to curb erosion, use of conventional insecticides and herbicides that are environment friendly, and Flower gardening to make our homes and the environment beautiful and a place worth residing.

Highlights: Volunteers work on environmental awareness and help plant trees within a community.
