Description:
There are over 40 preschools in the Kayalethu township of Knysna, South Africa. These are generally initiated by stay-at-home moms or women without formal employment who take it upon themselves to provide a service to the community. Through the Knysna AIDS council and Knysna Education Trust, these women are becoming accredited and trained in pre-school education. Currently, there are at least 10 accredited preschools in the township, each looking after at least 40-60 kids between the ages of 2 and 6. We work with a minimum of 5 preschools in the township, providing support through volunteer involvement and equipment. Work with the teachers of Bongani, Eyethu, Magdalenes, Sinethemba, or Siyafunda creche and be the difference in the lives of these children!
Highlights:
* Immerse yourself in a vibey, friendly and safe South African township * Assist teachers with kids between 2 and 6 in their preschools * Play mentally & physically educational games with the children * Teach underprivileged children how to read and write and give them the gift of English * Learn about African culture and customs from the local Xhosa and Zulu residents

Edge of Africa's Mission Statement: EDGE OF AFRICA offers meaningful integrating opportunities for volunteers who want to make a REAL and ethical difference in Africa. We approach our projects with a mission: to create sustainable solutions through team work and with integrity.
We aim to provide you, the volunteer with a TRUE and full African experience which not only benefits the projects you assist but gives you the gift of understanding Africa's real cultural and environmental heritage.
We aim to move away from the 'Aid to Africa' idea and instead empower local initiatives with the skills necessary to give them every chance to develop with equal opportunities.
