Description:
Many smaller towns in Ghana have experienced the plight of young men and women leaving their homes in order to seek better work opportunities in the capital city of Accra. Often times they abandon their children believing that they will be a burden on their ability to secure profitable work. As a result, many younger children are left without homes or anyone to care for them. In response to this situation, many orphanages have been established around the country opening their doors to the most needy youngsters providing basic necessities and education. Volunteers are needed to teach in the school, organize recreational activities, engage in any construction or painting projects, help the youngest children adhere to good hygiene habits, help with laundry, and most importantly, be positive mentors. Location Orphanages are located in Ofaakor (about 1 ½ hours from Accra in the Central Region), Klikor (20 minutes from Togo border near Aflao), and Kasoa (30 minutes from Accra). Volunteers will receive a thorough orientation for a few days in the capital city of Accra upon arrival in Ghana.
