Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Dates: Start dates every March and August

Description: Volunteers will work 20 weeks assisting in local Municipal school English classes in exchange for room and board with a local English teacher.

Primary classroom goals: pronunciation help, ESL activities, assisting teacher.

Volunteers must have an intermediate level of Spanish. If not, the Pichilemu Institute of Language Studies offers a discount rate on classes for volunteers.

Volunteers must pay their airfare to Chile, and need their own spending and traveling money. Only a private room, 3 meals, laundry, and a bike for local transport are provided. Health insurance not provided.

Registration/application forms must be completed by February 1st for the fall semester (March- mid July) and by July 15th for the spring semester (August 15th-late December).

Highlights: Chilean municipal schools are over-crowded and under-funded. The English teachers often need help with English pronunciation, speaking, and listening skills. This is your chance to give back to someone with the help of your native language skills.

20 hour work weeks are light, leaving plenty of time for surfing or relaxing at the beach.

Pichilemu is a small fishing village/international surfing destination. It is 3.5 hours from the capital city of Santiago.
